Questions people often ask

If your question is not here, call Karol on 07703 040203. He is happy to help.

Booking and prices

How much will it cost?

Every garden is different, so we come and look first. You then get a quote that sets out the work and the price. The price does not change unless you ask us to do more.

Is the visit and quote free?

Yes. Karol will come and see the garden, listen to what you would like and give you a quote. There is no charge and no obligation.

Why do you not publish prices?

Two gardens of the same size can take very different amounts of work. Access, waste, soil and the state of the garden all change the price. A visit lets us give you a proper figure rather than a guess.

How soon can you start?

We can usually come and look within a few days. Smaller jobs can often be done within a week or two. Larger projects depend on the season, so it helps to get in touch early in spring.

Are you insured?

Yes. We hold public liability insurance, so you are covered if anything goes wrong while we are working on your property. We are happy to show you the certificate.

Do you work outside West London?

Our regular garden care rounds are in West and North West London. For larger projects, such as patios, fencing, decking and garden makeovers, we work anywhere in London.

Can I try you on one job before regular care?

Yes. Many clients start with a single tidy-up or hedge cut to see how we work.

On the day

Do I need to be at home?

No. Many of our clients are out when we visit. We just need access to the garden, for example through a side gate. We let you know when we have finished.

Will the same people come each time?

Yes. You will have the same small team, and Karol is always the person to speak to.

Is your team DBS checked?

Yes. Karol and the team member who works with him on school and nursery sites are both DBS checked.

Do you take the garden waste away?

Yes. We bag and remove all cuttings, soil and old materials. We do not leave bags behind for you to deal with.

Do you bring your own tools?

Yes. We bring everything we need, from mowers and hedge cutters to a van for the waste. You do not need to provide anything.

What happens if it rains?

We work in light rain. If the weather is too poor, or the ground is too wet to work on, we move your visit and tell you the new day.

Garden care

How often should a gardener visit?

For most family gardens, every two weeks from spring to autumn works well, with less frequent visits in winter. We will suggest what suits your garden when we come to look.

Do you cut hedges in the nesting season?

We check every hedge for active nests before we cut. If we find one, we leave that part until the birds have gone. Disturbing an active nest is against the law.

Can you work on a protected tree?

Before any tree work we check whether the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area. If council consent or notice is needed, we do not start until it is in place.

Can you look after my garden while I am away?

Yes. We can mow, water and keep an eye on the garden while you are on holiday, and tell you if anything needs attention.

When is the best time to lay a new lawn?

Autumn and spring. The ground is warm and damp, so new turf roots quickly. Turf laid in summer needs a lot of watering.

Building work

Do I need planning permission for a fence, deck or patio?

Usually not. A fence can normally be up to 2 metres high in a back garden, and a deck up to 30 centimetres off the ground. Paving more than five square metres of a front garden must let water drain away. Listed homes and conservation areas can have extra rules, and we will tell you if something needs checking.

Do you do the whole job, or will I need other trades?

Our team does the groundwork, paving, fencing, decking, turf and planting. You speak to Karol throughout.

How long will the work take?

A fence or a new lawn can often be done in a day or two. A full garden makeover can take a few weeks. We give you an idea of timing with the quote.

Who should I talk to about a shared fence?

Your neighbour, before the work starts. Your deeds may show who is responsible for the boundary. We are happy to agree the line with both of you.

Can you work in a garden with no side access?

Often, yes. Many terraced houses only have access through the house. We protect floors and carry materials and waste through carefully. Tell us when you ask for a quote, as it affects the time the job takes.
