How much does a garden clearance cost in London in 2026?

The short answer. A garden clearance in London typically costs around £250 to £600 for a small to medium overgrown back garden in 2026, and £800 to £1,500 or more for a large or very neglected garden. Waste removal is usually the biggest part of the price, so always ask whether it is included in the quote.

What are typical garden clearance prices in London?

These are typical West London market figures, not a price list. Every garden is different, so a visit is the only way to get a firm price.

  • Small tidy (cutting back, weeding, one or two bags of waste): around £150 to £300.
  • Overgrown small to medium back garden: around £250 to £600 including waste.
  • Large or very neglected garden with brambles, small trees and rubbish: around £800 to £1,500 or more.
  • Stump removal or grinding: usually priced per stump, depending on size and access.

What affects the price of a garden clearance?

Rented and empty properties in areas like Hayes, Southall and Greenford often need a one off clearance before new tenants move in. These are usually quoted as a fixed price.

  • The amount of waste and how it leaves: green waste, soil and rubble are priced differently.
  • Access. If everything has to go through the house, the job takes longer.
  • Brambles, ivy and self seeded trees, which take the most time to remove properly.
  • Nesting birds. Hedges and shrubs with active nests cannot be cleared, which can delay work in spring.

Skip or waste collection: which is cheaper?

A skip in London usually needs a council permit if it sits on the road, and you still do the work yourself. A gardener who clears and takes the waste away in one visit is often similar in total cost and much less effort. Make sure whoever takes your waste is a registered waste carrier.

When is the best time for a garden clearance?

Autumn and late winter are ideal. Plants have died back, it is easier to see what is worth keeping, and there are no nesting birds in hedges. Clearing in autumn also means the garden is ready for a new lawn, patio or fence in spring.

Questions people ask

How long does a garden clearance take?

A small to medium overgrown garden usually takes one day for a small team. Large or very neglected gardens can take two to three days, depending on access and how much waste there is.

Is waste removal included in a garden clearance price?

It should be, but always check. A good quote lists clearing, waste removal and any extras such as stump removal separately, so there are no surprises.

Can you clear a garden for a landlord or letting agent?

Yes. One off clearances for rented, empty or sold properties are common. They are usually priced as a fixed quote from photos or a short visit, and the work can be done without the owner present.

Do I need permission to cut down trees during a clearance?

Trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order or in a conservation area need council consent before major work. Most small self seeded trees and shrubs do not, but a professional should check first.
